Augustin Rioux

Scénographe et metteur en scène, Augustin Rioux a travaillé dans les domaines du théâtre, de la danse et de l'opéra. Il a également exercé comme monteur de films et poursuit une démarche de plasticien. Cette trajectoire croisée constitue son terrain de travail : une connaissance incarnée des possibilités expressives et des réalités techniques propres à chacun de ces domaines. D'où son écriture protéiforme donnant accès à une richesse d'appréhension de l'œuvre.

Dialogue with historical iconography

The practice examines the quiet devotion of modern individuals absorbed by handheld screens. By placing photographic figures directly onto raw wood panels, the work establishes a formal tension between historical sacred geometries and contemporary digital realities.

The gold leaf does not imitate sacred relics; instead, it catches the cold, intense light cast by mobile phones, framing the subjects in a state of quiet introspection. The wood grain is left exposed where the figure recedes, letting the physical material dictate the boundary of the painted plane.
